PARKER ELKS YOUTH DAY
MAY 3, 2018
The Parker Elks Lodge No. 1929 will sponsor the Annual Youth Day observance on May 3rd for Parker High School. This program honors Elks National Youth Week, the first week of May, 2018. Elks Youth Day has been held in our area for over 60 years, sponsored by the Lodge, in cooperation with Parker High School, the Town of Parker, the Colorado River Indian Tribes, La Paz County, and the business people throughout the County.
Student participants are seniors from Parker High School’s 2018 graduating class. They participated in various leadership roles in the greater Parker area for the entire morning.
Youth Day was conceived by the National Elks Organization as an American response to the militaristic May 1st “May Day” celebration of Communist nations. Thus, the Elks hold their event as closely as possible to May 1st, generally the first Thursday in May, emphasizing freedom and democracy.
High School seniors participate in various tribal, town, and county offices gaining an awareness of our democratic government. Seniors working in private enterprise spending the day learning the duties, responsibilities, and skills involved in local businesses.
